On May 14, the AmCham China Education Committee convened an insightful seminar titled Get Ready to Study in the US in Beijing. The event brought together prospective students, parents, and educators to explore the latest trends and essential guidance for studying in the United States.
The afternoon began with welcome remarks from Katie Beck, Head of External Relations at the Western Academy of Beijing, setting the stage for an engaging and information-rich program. The first keynote session featured Erin Metcalf and Julia Wohlers from the US Embassy in Beijing, who offered updates on US visa policies, application procedures, and trends in international student mobility.
Following this, a panel of higher education experts including: Grace Liu (Beijing Royal School), Jingyu Wang (University of Notre Dame), and Fran Liu (University of Minnesota), shared practical tips for academic success and cultural adaptation in the US. Their insights highlighted the tips of college study, residential life, financial safety, and mental well-being.
A special “Parent to Parent” dialogue rounded out the event, featuring Schwarzman Scholar mentor Mei Wang and Anne Liu from DDC Academy, who provided firsthand perspectives on supporting children through the transition to US college life.
The event concluded with an open Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with speakers on topics ranging from campus life and safety to financial planning and institutional selection.
